This is the cyclr.com blog. Try out cyclr.com as well!

We're in it!

Posted by yeah Tue, 28 Aug 2007 19:53:10 GMT

I found this article on rww telling us about 5000+ registered web2.0 apps at simplespark. Amazing!

To celebrate, simplespark produced a video of 5000 registered apps. Guess what?! cyclr.com is in it! Look closely by when the progress marker hits one quarter…

I was very sad...

Posted by yeah Fri, 13 Jul 2007 12:13:00 GMT

…when our team over at “the social sports network formerly known as M_KABINE.net” – another cool project I am working on – received a notice by a lawyer in Berlin telling us that our former name has been trademarked, appearently only to make us pay royalties to its owner Tobias Kläner.

I am really happy now that so many people, including bloggers and our very own “competitors” are reacting to our blog post and wishing us good luck or spreading the word about the new name.

We are SPIELERKABINE.net now – and we are proud. Thank you for your attention, keep on cycling!

Change in Semantics: open stories

Posted by yeah Mon, 25 Dec 2006 13:47:00 GMT

Happy holidays to everybody! I just want to let you know, that the semantics of the term “open story” changed: It’s no longer a story that requires action from you – it now means a story that requires action in general.

I think it’s more useful this way.

Currencies and primary email addresses

Posted by yeah Wed, 20 Dec 2006 15:18:00 GMT

We’re getting there. I should do more travelling. I am just more productive on planes ;-)

Today’s announcement includes changable default currencies and changable primary email addresses.

First things first: The primary email address thing is not a big deal and it’s a shame that it hasn’t been there before. As you know, you can register several email addresses with cyclr.com – and you should do that so that other people can enter new stories more easily. Now, your primary email address is the one that all your cyclr.com notifications are sent to. You probably want to use an email address that you check frequently. Just hover over your registered addresses and click on make primary to do so. Easy, huh?

Currency So, what about that currency thing? The good thing is: you can change your default currency now. The bad thing? Well, it doesn’t change much (yet)! Your overall balances as well as balances with friends are still calculated 1:1 no matter which currency your stories are in. Yes, I am still working on that and yes, there will be a neat API powered solution that does conversion on daily updated exchange rates. Meanwhile, please make sure that you set your currency on your Settings page. cyclr.com will already save the correct currency for your stories – this enables you to have automatic currency conversion for all your old obligations once the feature is implemented.

Open stories at a glance

Posted by yeah Wed, 13 Dec 2006 10:34:00 GMT

Did you ever get lost on cyclr.com? Have you had too many stories to keep track of your open items?

These times are over! cyclr.com just became a little bit better: it has a new and convenient listing of open stories – just those that require action from you.

And I’m sure, you will love the tiny open stories symbol in the upper right, won’t you?

New Stories!

Get-Even-With-This-User feature

Posted by yeah Mon, 11 Dec 2006 02:26:00 GMT

It took you guys quite some time to convince me that we do need that feature, but here it comes.

I see that some of you want to get even before leaving to another place or after coming home from a trip and stuff.

But please keep in mind that the main idea behind cyclr.com is to keep tabs open and have them cycled instead of paying them back!

So how does it work? Just go to your people view and you’ll find new links. Clicking on a friend’s name will bring up a stories view which shows just the stories you have with this person. ‘Got it’ and ‘Pay’ let you close a tab.

If you have questions, comments or find bugs, please don’t hesitate to contact me!

Claim your very own cyclr.com sticker and place it on the lid of your laptop to tell the world you use cyclr. And then, leave a comment here once you did, of course! :-)

Guest blogger

Posted by yeah Fri, 08 Dec 2006 04:30:19 GMT

Just so that you folks know: I’m a guest blogger on Hagen’s resting bird now and I blog about the real good geek stuff over there. My first post is on how I think REST URIs should have model objects as their endpoints rather than controllers.

Check it out, if you like.

Hey, you travelers...

Posted by yeah Thu, 16 Nov 2006 10:43:00 GMT

cyclr.com does support different currencies for obligations, stories and users – the user interface just doesn’t allow you yet to set that up yourself.

I know, some of you recently moved from one country to another and I’d kindly ask you guys to send me a short email, so that I can set up your profile in the backend. Your stories will then display the correct currencies. I promise, the config feature (plus automated currency conversion) will come very soon.

Just a short note to mention that I’m going to attend Startup Camp this Thursday and Friday down here in Mountain View, CA.

So if you want to meet, just drop me a line before and I’d be glad to shake hands. Or we just hook up there. Anyways, looking forward to seeing you.
